Liverpool

Updated: Sep 8, 2018

Whether it's the football, the shopping or the music, Liverpool has so much to offer.

Albert Dock with the Museum of Liverpool

If you're up for spending 24 hours in Liverpool, let me show you the best things to do whilst in this friendly city...

“Top Tip: Even if you're not a Beatles Fan, you have to head down to The Cavern Club it's full of musical memories"

Musical experiences:

Fans of The Beatles will know that this is where they made they're debut. The club was opened on 16 January 1957 after previously being used as a World War II air raid shelter and a fruit cellar. It is, as the name suggests, a series of cave tunnels which has a stage on the middle and largest cave. When I went we paid general admission prices which varies from £4-6 and from that we saw a great selection of 60s tribute bands.

The British Music Experience can be found near the Museum of Liverpool and the Liver Building. The British Music Experience hosts a variety of pop music memorabilia from costumes and instruments from the likes of Bowie, Adele and Oasis. One of it's most popular exhibits is the Spice Girls famous Union Jack dress. Admission ranges from £10-20.

The Beatles Story located in the Royal Albert Dock, near Tate Liverpool. Admission on the day costs £17 for adults however, we managed to find a online voucher making it £25 for two adults so always worth having a quick look around. The Beatles Story tells the history of the Beatles from when they were first founded until John Lennon and George Harrison's death. It was in depth and very interesting (even to a non-fan!).

Museums:

Tate Liverpool is located in the Albert Dock area of Liverpool. It's a short walk from the Maritime Museum and Museum of Liverpool. This is one of two Tate collections situated outside London (the other being in St. Ives). It hosts several collections of art, films and performances. They always have workshops on, most of which are family orientated and with most of them also being free, it's a definite yes from me!

This iconic building was opened in 2011 with a total cost of over £72 million. It hosts several collections around Liverpool's social history such as the Overhead Railway that used to run in the city.

Situated in the Docks in its original red brick building, this museum will take you through the history of Liverpool's ports. It will examine the tragedy of the Titanic and how it was built as well as take a look into Liverpool's Port security and take a look at some of the most smuggled items of decades gone.

The World Museum features five floors of natural history from Ancient Greece to the Blitz in Liverpool. It has an extensive Zoology collection with over 1.2 million specimens and a planetarium!

Other Attractions:

Both football clubs are situated a short while away from the city centre. Both clubs offer tours ranging from £12-15 per adult on non-matchdays and £20 on matchdays (Liverpool only). Liverpool will also give you access to the LFC museum and The Steven Gerrard exhibition whilst Everton will give you 20% off in the shop.

Liverpool One offers a large variety of shops and eateries and is located near to the revamped Docks. Perhaps the ladies can shuffle off shopping whilst the lads have a round of jungle mini golf in the centre?
